RUSSIAN STEAM WORKING IN ESTONIA The most prolific of post-World War II Soviet steam locomotives was the L-class 2-10-0, of which over 5,200 were built beginning in 1945. They were widespread over the Soviet Railways and became familiar to foreign visitors. One of the earliest constructed was No. L-0395, seen with the cyrillic "CCCP" (USSR) adorning the front, above the customary red star and sickle and hammer emblem, at Narva, Estonia, October 18, 1972.
